Embark on Metro’s Lifeline Challenge: A Guide to Getting Involved

Picture yourself traversing the serene Cotswold hills this summer, feeling the breeze against your skin and the warmth of the sun, while every stride contributes to aiding individuals affected by dementia. It’s a chance to blend adventure with purpose, making a meaningful impact through physical activity.

Event Overview

The 2026 Lifeline challenge will take place on June 13, with participants gathering at the Royal Agricultural University in Circencester. This event is designed to bring together a wide array of supporters, including Metro staff, Alzheimer’s Society volunteers, and readers eager to make a difference.

Team Diversity and Participation

Team Lifeline is a dynamic group that spans different generations and fitness levels. Whether you’re joining solo or with companions, the challenge is adaptable to your pace and preferences. The mix of participants ensures a vibrant community of like-minded individuals ready to encourage and inspire one another.

Public Access and Support

As a public event, Team Lifeline will be accompanied by over 2000 other hikers, creating a supportive environment even if you register alone. The camaraderie of fellow walkers ensures you’ll never be without motivation or conversation as you tackle the trail.

Choosing Your Distance and Fundraising Goals

Before committing, decide on the distance that suits your abilities: 25km, 50km, or 100km (which can be completed in one go or over two days). Each option has a corresponding fundraising target—£150 for 25km, £225 for 50km, and £330 for 100km. Regardless of your choice, you’ll have a team behind you to assist in reaching your goal.

Registration and Fundraising Requirements

Registration costs £15, but the fundraising targets vary. For example, if you target the 25km route, your goal could be £275 or £150, with the latter requiring a higher contribution. At least 50% of your target must be raised three weeks before the event, while the remaining amount and any extras should be collected within four weeks of finishing.

Support and Resources

Throughout the journey, you’ll receive ongoing guidance and updates. Metro’s JustGiving page centralizes donations, and a personalized link will be sent upon registration. Additionally, the charity and event organizers, Action Challenge, provide regular email reminders about start times, route details, and bib numbers. You’ll get your start-time email four weeks prior and your e-ticket confirmation 10–14 days before the event.
