Iranian defence chief who issued sinister warning to Trump is killed in airstrike
Iranian Security Official Killed in Airstrike After Threatening Trump
An Iranian official, who delivered a chilling warning to Donald Trump last week, was killed in a surprise airstrike after threatening to take out the US. The attack, reportedly carried out by Israeli forces, targeted Ali Larijani, the Supreme National Security Council Secretary, according to Iran’s Defence Ministry.
The Israeli Defense Forces confirmed the strike, which also claimed the life of the head of the Basji paramilitary group. Larijani had previously issued a stark message to Trump: “The nation of Iran is not afraid of your empty threats. Even those bigger than you could not eliminate the Iranian nation. Watch yourselves, or you might be eliminated!”
Larijani played a key role in the interim leadership council, which determined the successor to Ali Khamenei, the Supreme Leader. The Basji, an all-volunteer force under the Iranian Revolutionary Guards, has been deployed to quell protests within the Islamic Republic.
US Airstrike and Soleimani’s Fate
General Qassem Soleimani, a prominent Iranian military figure, was said to have perished in a separate strike, though Iran delayed confirming his death. The US Treasury records Soleimani’s birth year as 1965, and he has faced sanctions from the US, European Union, and other countries for his involvement in suppressing dissent through the Basji.
A Secret Evacuation
Mojtaba Khamenei, the eldest son of the former Ayatollah, was announced as Soleimani’s successor last week. However, he was critically injured in a US airstrike and allegedly airlifted to Russia for emergency leg surgery. According to Kuwaiti newspaper Al-Jarida, the new leader was secretly extracted from a bunker during an attack that killed his wife, mother, father, and son.
The evacuation reportedly occurred in Moscow, with Mojtaba receiving treatment in one of Vladimir Putin’s presidential palaces. Al-Jarida cited an anonymous high-ranking source close to the Iranian Supreme Leader for its claims. The severity of Mojtaba’s injuries ranges from fractured limbs to potential loss of a leg or even a coma, according to unverified reports.
Despite US reports of his death, Mojtaba recently issued a bloodthirsty statement demanding retribution against the US and its allies. Iran later affirmed that the new Ayatollah is alive, contradicting earlier claims that he had been killed.
