Four teens arrested over fatal stabbing of boy, 16
Four Teens Arrested in Connection with Fatal Stabbing
A 16-year-old boy’s death has led to the arrest of four teenagers, according to Cambridgeshire Police. The incident occurred in Riseholme, a neighborhood near the Ortongate Shopping Centre in Peterborough, after a call was received shortly before 19:00 BST on Sunday. The attack involved a teenager who was stabbed and later succumbed to his injuries in the hospital.
Authorities are investigating the stabbing as a targeted event rather than a random occurrence. The nearby St John’s Church School announced its temporary closure, citing a “serious incident” nearby that required police intervention. In an email shared with the BBC, the school stated that “police are currently processing a site in close proximity to the school,” prompting the decision to shut down.
Suspects in Custody
Two individuals from Peterborough, a 15-year-old boy and an 18-year-old man, have been detained on suspicion of murder. Additionally, two girls, aged 16 and 17, are in custody for assisting an offender. The 16-year-old girl, who is also from March, faces charges of possessing a bladed object.
Police Presence and Location Impact
An image captured the heightened police activity near the Ortongate Shopping Centre on Sunday night, with a substantial cordon still in place on Monday. The shopping centre remains open, though its rear car park is closed. Some flowers were left by the public near the cordoned area.
“This is a tragic incident which has resulted in the death of a young man, and we are in contact with his family and keeping them updated,” said Det Ch Insp Richard Stott from the Beds, Cambs and Herts Major Crime Unit. “While we understand the death will be concerning for local people, we do not believe this was a random attack and there will be a significant police presence in the area over coming days.”
Residents are being asked to share any information or footage from home CCTV systems with the police. The school has indicated it will “continue to monitor the situation” and provide updates on when it will reopen to parents and carers.
