Eamonn Holmes recovering in hospital after stroke
GB News confirmed that broadcaster Eamonn Holmes is currently in hospital following a stroke. The statement revealed he “was taken ill last week” and that “it was later confirmed he had suffered a stroke.” Holmes, 66, is said to be “responding well to treatment,” with his colleagues expressing hope for a swift recovery.
Career Overview
Eamonn Holmes, hailing from Northern Ireland, has spent decades in broadcasting. He began his career on UTV’s Good Evening Ulster and later joined GMTV for its debut in January 1993, remaining there until 2005. After that, he moved to Sky News, where he hosted the breakfast programme Sunrise. In 2022, Holmes transitioned to GB News, co-hosting its morning show with Ellie Costello.
Before his role at GB News, Holmes was a familiar face on ITV’s This Morning, where he shared the anchor desk with his wife, Ruth Langsford. Their marriage, which began in 2010, ended in 2024 when they announced their divorce. In recognition of his contributions to media, he was awarded an OBE in the 2018 New Year’s Honours List.
Health Challenges
Earlier this year, Holmes had spoken about several health concerns, including spinal surgery and a double hip replacement. These procedures were part of his ongoing efforts to manage mobility issues, which had required him to use a scooter. Now, a new health challenge has brought him to the hospital, though his team reported he is in good condition.
“Eamonn Holmes is a loved member of the GB News family,” said CEO Angelos Frangopoulos. The channel added that Alex Armstrong will cover his duties for the upcoming week.
Understanding Strokes
A stroke occurs when blood flow to a part of the brain is interrupted, as outlined by NHS guidance. Symptoms may include facial drooping, arm weakness, or speech difficulties. Prompt medical attention is crucial if these signs are observed.
