Tragic incident in Redcar prompts police investigation
Authorities confirmed that a three-month-old infant died after a dog attack in Redcar. The incident occurred on Hardale Grove, Dormanstown, shortly after 13:30 BST on Thursday. Officers responded to the scene following reports of a child in danger.
A 45-year-old man was detained on suspicion of overseeing a dog that was dangerously out of control, leading to fatal injuries. He has since been released on conditional bail. The police destroyed two dogs at the location, one on the street and the other at the property, as part of their investigation.
Meanwhile, a 31-year-old woman sustained an arm injury during the event and was treated at a hospital. Both canines were examined by a specialist officer, who stated they were not identified as prohibited breeds.
“We remain with the child’s family during this sorrowful event,” said Ch Supt Rachel Stockdale, head of local policing. “I urge everyone to respect their privacy as they cope with this loss.” The force is encouraging anyone with insights, such as video footage, to share details.
Police have maintained a visible presence at the address while the inquiry proceeds. The investigation continues to determine the full circumstances of the tragedy.
